Sun Microsystems/Oracle Corporation (1990 - 2012)
Senior Director, Product Engineering (2006 – 2012). Delivered Enterprise Manager Ops Center, Oracle’s first enterprise-class systems management product for multi-tenant cloud environments. Core product capabilities included all aspects of storage management, networking, clustering, OS infrastructure, patching and virtualization at very large horizontal scale. Responsibilities included product engineering lifecycle, design analysis, budgets, planning, and quarterly delivery of product updates. Instituted embedded quality engineering, automated security compliance testing, and Agile development methodology across a globally distributed team. Extensive customer facing responsibilities included executive sponsorship and formal customer briefings.
Chief Information Security Officer (2004 - 2006). Responsible for application/infrastructure security and data privacy for the Connected Services business unit. Role included establishing standards, security audit compliance, secure by design software development lifecycle, and CERT capabilities for all customer on-premise software products and customer self-service web portals.
Senior Director, Product Engineering (2002 – 2004). Led software engineering for service automation products that included on-premise diagnostic tools, knowledge delivery systems, and customer self-help portals. Delivered Online Support Center, Sun's first customer self-service web portal, which was responsible for $400M in annual cost savings. Online Support Center was voted “Best Online Service Portal” by Gartner from 2002 - 2004. Implemented Dev Ops methodology and Agile developer tools across a global software development team.
Senior Director, IT Operations (1999 – 2002). Responsible for custom software development and systems integration of 3rd party products in support of the Services business unit. Developed and implemented a Siebel-based call center management system that supported +8,000 field and call center personnel worldwide. Implemented a cloud based computer telephony integration system that enabled rule-based global call routing.
Director, Network Security and IT Infrastructure (1996 – 1999). Led network security operations, IT infrastructure design, and the development of custom security software solutions. Responsible for all aspects of enterprise computer security including the establishment of standards, compliance scans, ad-hoc penetration testing, forensic analysis, and CERT. Developed industry first-of-kind security software platform, which dramatically improved the security and agility of Sun's e-Business practices. Revamped and standardized the operational model for all of Sun's Network Operations Centers.
Sr. Manager, Research & Development (1995 – 1996). Drove the adoption of web-based technology for online learning systems and virtual libraries. Led software engineering efforts to deliver one of the industry’s first entirely web-based online learning products. Managed the transition of the Sun Library from a traditional brick-and-mortar research facility to a modern online content provider.
Enterprise Architect (1990 - 1995). IT Architect responsible for the selection and deployment of desktop productivity tools, decision support, and data management products. Managed a team of technologists responsible for the licensing and distribution of 3rd party products (Oracle, Sybase, FrameMaker, Lotus Notes and SAS) across Sun’s global network.
